Modern Religious Experience: Reflection #4: Buddhist Meditation

Modern Religious Experience: Reflection #4: Buddhist Meditation: "Spend 20 mintues in a silent meditation; a place you won't be disturbed, your own 'fig tree' as was Buddha's inspiration. In those 20 minutes..."

I have meditated a few times before; when I lived in Thailand for a year I actually did a fair amount of it. My dad also used to meditate almost daily and I joined him sometimes. It's always difficult for me to completely empty my mind, so I usually try to just focus solely on my breathing at first, and then eventually try to completely clear my mind. During my meditation session outside on my porch I think I was able to completely empty my mind for a few minutes. I had trouble not thinking about anything, as I mentioned.

Unfortunately, I didn't really receive much of an inspiration. Normally when I finish meditating I just feel very calm and at peace. I suppose this is an inspiration of a sort, but I hope that I can have a "real" inspiration in meditation sessions in the future.
